2018 United States National Cyclocross Championships
 
Welcome to Natz!  On behalf of the officiating crew, I’d like to welcome you to Reno and to the National Championships.  The crew for the event is committed to a fair, safe and efficient competition. This first communique highlights a few topics that will help us achieve this goal together.

CALL UP PROCEDURES
ELITE/U23/17-18 JUNIORS
1 Defending national champion from previous year (same class)
2 Order of UCI rankings as of Monday, January 8, 2018, at 11:59 a.m. PT
3 USA Cycling Rider Rankings as of Monday, January 8, 2018, at 11:59 a.m. PT
4 Riders without pre-reg, UCI or USAC ranking points will be called-up by random order
 
MASTERS/SINGLESPEED/11-16 JUNIORS
1 Defending national champion from previous year (same class)
2 The national champion from the next younger age class the year before if he/she has since moved to the next age class
3 Finishers 2-5 returning to the same age class from the previous year’s nat champs**
4 USA Cycling Rider Rankings as of Monday, January 8, 2018, at 11:59 a.m. PT
5 Remaining riders will be called-up by random order after the first four (4) methods
 
COLLEGIATE
1 Defending national champion from previous year (same class)
2 Conference champion, as determined by each Conference Director (in random order, if national champion and conference champ are on the same team, there will be no rider called up)
3 One rider per team, called one team at a time, in order of the 2017 Team Omnium results, followed by teams that did not attend in random order. Once each team has a rider called to the line, the method will be repeated until all riders have been staged. 
 
NON-CHAMPIONSHIP 1 USA Cycling Rider Rankings as of Monday, January 8, 2018, at 11:59 a.m. PT
 
RULES
Elite, U23, Juniors 17-18        UCI rules will be in effect
Masters & Collegiate     UCI rules will be applied: exception that the 33mm tire width rule will not be enforced. Riders must have no larger than 35mm tire & compete on CX bike.  No flat bars. No spiked or studded tires.
Singlespeed         UCI rules will be applied: exception that the 33mm tire width rule will not be enforced. Riders must have no larger than 35mm tire & compete on CX bike.  No flat bars. No spiked or studded tires. Riders must have a  freewheel, one cog, a single front chainring and drop bars. 
Junior 16 and younger/  non-  championship USA Cycling rules. No spiked or studded tires. No other bike restrictions.

 
PITS
Pit passes are required only for the Sunday elite, junior men 17-18 and U-23 races
 
Passes are not required for all other events, HOWEVER, we request that all people in the pit be actively supporting racers on course.  We will ask (and enforce) that those who are spectating rather than working.  The pits are a place of business, and we need to ensure that this business is conducted safely and efficiently.  Thanks for your help on this.
 
PULLING RIDERS
Sunday UCI events: 80% rule is in effect
All other events: No riders will be pulled.  Riders will finish on the same lap as the race winner.
  • We may ring the bell early for riders within 1/3 lap of being lapped before the leader sees one to go. Such riders receiving an early bell will be listed on the results
  • If lapped, the caught rider must give way to the faster rider
  • Overtaking riders must exercise care when passing.
  • Riders who DNF will not be placed.
